The Club will be holding a Golf Classic on Saturday September 1, 2001 in Tubbercurry Golf Club. Teams of 4 are required and the entry fee is £10 per head. Your support of this fundraiser would be appreciated. Please see Austin Walsh or any member of the Finance Committee for further details.

On Saturday evening last the senior team faced Tubbercurry in the League. Both teams took good scores and with 4 minutes to go Tourlestrane were 2 points down when a Brendan Egan goal put them into the lead. Tubbercurry responded well with a point to draw level at the final whistle. The final score was Tourlestrane 3-7 to Tubbercurry 0-16. A speedy recovery is wished to Matt Walsh who received a hand injury in the game.

The senior hurlers put in a much-improved performance on Sunday last when they travelled to Calry in the Championship. Having been defeated by Calry in the League final the team were determined to avenge the defeat. With 4 of the Quinn Bothers Annagh lined out and mid fielder Eamonn Walsh scoring a personal tally of 1-12, the team were in control throughout, taking the honours at full time on a scoreline of Tourlestrane 1-15 to Calry 0-9. The team have now booked their place in the County Final to be played shortly. More details to follow.

The senior team will face Curry in the Championship semi final to be played in Tubbercurry on Sunday, September 10, 2001 at 1:00pm.

The under 16 A Final was played in Markievicz Park on Monday evening last versus Ballymote. The team performed well but never came to grips with the physical superiority of Ballymote, who ran out winners on a score of Tourlestrane 1-5 Ballymote 2-10. The very best of luck is wished to the team, who will continue the season with the minor squad. Many thanks to team manager Jerry Lundy assistant Michael Marren and trainer Paddy Henry for their commitment to the team over the last number of years.

New York Celtic GFC would like to thank all the people of the parish for the warm reception they received when in Tourlestrane. In particular they would like to thank the Under 10 and Under 12 players, their managers Leo Gaughan and Steven Henry and to the Ladies Committee who provided the refreshments after the game.

The parish league for national school children of the parish continues on Wednesdays at 6:00pm. All national school children are welcome to take part. Further details from Stephen Henry.

On Sunday last, Tourlestrane faced St. John’s in the quarterfinals of the Championship played in Ballymote. While St. John’s battled hard throughout the first half Tourlestrane took control in the second half and ran out winners on a scoreline of Tourlestrane 1-14 St. John’s 0-9. The team have now qualified for the semi finals to be played in a fortnight’s time. Further details next week.

The Senior league resumes on Saturday August 25 when the team face Tubbercurry in Tourlestrane. Further details at training during the week.

The boys under 16 team have qualified for the county final of the “A” Championship versus Ballymote to be played in Markievicz Park on Monday August 27th at 7:00pm. The club wish team manager Jerry Lundy and the team the very best of luck in the final.

The minor boys had an exciting match versus Mullinabreena on Monday last. The date of the replay has yet to be finalised. Further details from team manager Michael Henry.

A very speedy recovery is wished to Joan Walsh, Curry, after a short stay in hospital.

Congratulations to Padraig Maye, Aclare on winning an All Ireland long jump title recently in Tullamore

The very best of luck is wished to under age players, Fergus Lundy and Alan Walsh, Rhue who will be competing in the Community Games athletics finals in Mosney this weekend.

Tourlestrane was the venue for the quarterfinal tie between Curry and Tubbercurry on Saturday last. The club would like to thank Eugene Leonard Banada, and Dennis O’Hara, Tourlestrane for their help with the preparations for the game. Thanks also to Laura Walsh and Aisling Egan for their help with the refreshments.

Tom Lavin of Swinford won the Bingo jackpot last week on 43 calls. Bingo continues on Tuesdays at 9:00pm in Banada Abbey Hall with £1100 in prizes each night.  Your support is, as always, appreciated.

The minor boys had a good win over St. Mary’s in the second round of the Championship, played in Tourlestrane on Monday last. Starting off slowly the team gained momentum throughout the game. At half time the score was Tourlestrane 1-7 St. Mary’s 1-2. In the second half a reorganized squad put the St. Mary’s defence under severe pressure and ran out winners on a score of Tourlestrane 3-12 St. Mary’s 1-3. The team was dealt a severe blow toward the end of the first half as John Marren received a severe mouth injury, which required hospitalisation. The team, managers and the club wish John, a very speedy recovery.

Castleconnor defeated the minor girls at home on Thursday last. The third round will be played on Thursday August 16. Please contact team manager Austin Walsh, or trainers Taryn O’Hara and Siobhan Kiranne for further details.

On Sunday last Tourlestrane faced Bunninaden in a league encounter played in Bunninaden. With Tourlestrane short a number of regulars the two teams battled throughout with the final score Tourlestrane 2-7 Bunninaden 0-13.

Sunday August 19 sees the senior team face St. John’s in the quarterfinals of the Championship. Though Championship debutantes this year, St. John’s have put in some fine performances to date and Sunday’s game should prove to be an exciting encounter. The girls Minor Championship began on Thursday last when the team travelled to Curry and ran out eventual winners after a slow start. The second round will be played on Thursday August 9th when the team face Castleconnor at home. Please contact team manager Austin Walsh, or trainers Taryn O’Hara and Siobhan Kiranne for further details.

On Friday last the club hosted the New York Celtic under 10 and Under 12 teams. A very large crowd watched New York win the under 10 game while Tourlestrane took the honours at Under 12 level. Afterwards a presentation was made to each of the teams and light refreshments were served. The club would like to thank Kathleen Gaughan, Eileen Curley, Amanda Curley, Pat Kelly, Ann Marie Kelly and Maria Dunne for their help in arranging the refreshments. Many thanks also to the Banada Abbey Hall committee for their help in the organization of the function.

The parish league for national school children of the parish will commence on Wednesday August 8th at 6:00pm. All interested children should attend this session, as teams will be picked on the night. Further details from Leo Gaughan.

In the senior championship Tourlestrane faced Coolera in the second round qualifier in Easky on Sunday last. Despite leading by 7 points at one stage, an epic second half saw Coolera emerge winners by 2 points. The team will now face St. John’s in the quarterfinals.

Congratulations and the very best of luck is wished to Joan and Eamonn Walsh on the birth of their daughter, Emma, on Friday last.
